Hyderabad makes it four in a row

DURBAN: Adam Gilchrist and Herschelle Gibbs guided Deccan Chargers to their fourth straight victory in the IPL.

Deccan Chargers registered a six-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings in their Indian Premier League match on Monday.

Replying to a decent target of 166, Deccan Chargers started to fire all guns from the word go.

Suresh Raina took the prized-wicket of Adam Gilchrist, who departed after playing a blazing knock that helped Deccan Chargers score the fastest fifty in all the IPL matches.

Suresh Raina also saw off VVS Laxman.

Laxmipathy Balaji picked up the wicket of Rohit Sharma but Deccan Chargers are in commanding position.

The Chargers found themselves in a spot of bother after Muttiah Muralitharan claimed the wicket of Dwayne Smith.

But ultimately, Herschelle Gibbs remained not out on 66 to take his team to victory.

Earlier, Matthew Hayden and Jacob Oram steered Chennai Super Kings to a decent total of 165 for six against Deccan Chargers.

Put into bat by Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings lost Parthiv Patel in the very first over.

But that did not put breaks in the scoring rate as Matthew Hayden and Suesh Raina simply accelerated the run-rate to take the score to 60-plus in six overs.

It was Rohit Sharma, who got the breakthrough for Deccan Chargers by seeing off Suresh Raina for a well-made 25 off 19 balls, including one four ans two sixes.

However, Hayden continued to pile up runs for his team at the other end, and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni gave his a brief support.

Pragyan Ojha struck hard and sent back both Dhoni and Hayden in the same over to put the Chargers on top.

Later, a qucikfire unbeaten 41 off just 29 balls by Jacob Oram helped Chennai post a competitive total.

For Hyderabad, Azhar Bilakhia and Shoaib Ahmed have come in place of Ravi Teja and Harmeet Singh respectively.

The Chennai Super Kings have started as unlikely underdogs against rampaging table-toppers Hyderabad.

The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai have won just one of their four matches so far, losing two while splitting points in their fourth game against Kolkata Knight Riders following a wash-out.

Deccan Chargers, on the other hand, have been simply unstoppable winning all three of their matches, riding mostly on their good batting led by in-form skipper Adam Gilchrist.
