ICC World T20 Qualifiers: Papua New Guinea defeat Nepal by eight wickets
KATHMANDU: Nepal lost their crucial Group A match of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers against Papua New Guinea by eight wickets at Dublin on Friday.
Put to bat first after losing the toss, Nepal were bowled out for 93 runs in 19.4 overs by Papua New Guinea.
Papua New Guinea met the target of 94 runs in 14.1 overs. With Assad Vala's six, Papua New Guinea made 99/2 and finished the play in style.
Vala, who claimed two Nepali wickets earlier, made unbeaten 34 runs off 44 to top-score for Papua New Guinea. He was declared Man of the Match for the performance.
Opener Tony Ura made 32 off 21, while Kila Pala contributed 22.
Nepal gave 10 extras.
Sompal Kami and Basant Regmi took one wicket each.
With today's win, unbeaten Papua New Guinea have seven points from four matches to top the table.
Irelan have six points from four matches and are second on the table.
Nepal, who needed a win today to remain in the race, have been left at fifth position with three points from five matches.

Winning toss, Papua New Guinea have decided to field.
Today's is a must-win match for Nepal, who are at the fifth position with three points from four matches.
Nepal need a win to stay in the race.
Co-shots Ireland are in pole position with six points, while PNG are second on five. Namibia, Hong Kong and Nepal all have three points each, while Jersey and the USA have two apiece.
The top four teams each from both the pools will be in fray for the six spots for the ICC World T20 to be held in India next year.
