India, B’desh bank on fine weather for final Test

Dhaka, May 24:

India and Bangladesh head into their deciding second and final Test match on Friday with both captains hoping the weather will allow a full five days play.

Tropical rains spoiled much of the drawn first Test in Chittagong last week. Even though the match stretched to the fifth and final day, it was frequently interrupted by rain.

“We hope to play for the full five days. That’s more important,” Indian skipper Rahul Dravid said after inspecting the pitch at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

“There is no pressure. It does not matter whether you start with one up or one down. We want to play good cricket,” said Dravid. Legspinner Anil Kumble, who missed the first Test because of fever, is “100 per cent fit,” Dravid said, adding the final team will be selected shortly before the start of the match.

Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar is also hoping for good weather in the Bangladesh capital. Bashar said the pitch at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium will be bouncy.

Bangladesh also will select its final team on Friday. Friday’s match will be Bangladesh’s 46th Test since it gained the game’s elite status in 2000.
