Int’l karate kicks off
KATHMANDU: Kripa Gurung and Tilganga Bomjan advanced to the girls’ singles kata section semi-finals of the third International Karate Tournament here on Friday.
Similarly, Mandira Magar and Bibhisha Shrestha made it to last four in the junior girls’ singles kata section. In the men’s section, Manish Thapa Magar and Sonam Singh Rai advanced to the senior category semi-finals whereas Anjan Magar and Surendra Tamang earned berths in the junior’s singles section.
In kumite, Sudeep Sunuwar and Abhishek Paudeal entered the 20kg weight category semi-finals, while Sahil Ghale and Sabin Majhi made it to the last four in the 25kg. Similarly, Anish Lamichhane and Sumit Tamang secured their places in the 45kg semi-finals, while Ram Giri and Pradeep Lama entered the 50kg semis.
A total of 568 players from Nepal (367), India (182), Sri Lanka (12), Bangladesh (four) and Pakistan (three) are competing in the two-day event organised by Samakhusi Dojo of Nepal Shito-ryu Karate Do Association.
