ILAM: Defending champions Rumpum Jhapa-XI defeated Tribhuvan Army Club 4-2 in penalty shootout in the final of the third Mai Valley Gold Cup at Thulo Tundikhel grounds on Saturday.

The match was decided in tie-breaker after both the teams played a goalless draw in the regulation period of 90 minutes and extra time. Champions Jhapa earned Rs 400,000, while runners-up TAC got Rs 250,000.

TAC’s Bibek Basnet was named the best player of the tournament, while his teammate Santosh Tamang was the best midfielder.

Similarly, Jhapa’s Kishor Giri was adjudged the best goalkeeper, Dilen Loktan was the best defender and Sanjay Rai was named the best coach. Nepal Police Club’s Abhishek Rijal was the highest scorer.
