Nathan bags Surya Nepal Monthly Medal title

Joseph Nathan won the second edition title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under the stroke play full handicap format, the 16-handicap amateur golfer Nathan bagged the trophy on count back after he was tied on two-under 70 nett with Hem Kumar Tamang, who played with 24 handicap allowance. Tamang took the runners-up trophy, while Prabhakar Adhikari finished third, also on count back after he was tied on one-under 71 nett with Rabindra Tiwari.

Prithivi Malla won the gross section trophy with the score of six-over 78, while Phurba Sherpa bagged the junior category title with the score of five-under 67 nett. In all, 42 golfers took part in the event which is sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire handed over the prizes to the winners of the event.

After the second edition, Rabindra Tiwari, who won the season-opening event, remained at the top of the nett section table with 135 points, while the day’s winner Nathan climbed up to second with 100 points. Gopal Chitrakar and Hem Kumar Tamang shared the third position with 60 points, while Dhurba Thapa was fifth with 55 points.

In gross section, Gopal Chitrakar accumulated 160 points to maintain his lead, while Prithivi Malla moved to second with 100 points. Ang Dendi Sherpa was third with 60 points, whereas Dhurba Thapa and Surendra Phuyal shared the fourth position with 40 points. Likewise, Phurba Sherpa was at the top of the junior category standing with 140 points, followed by Sam Doublard (135) and Tanush Sanghai (100).

A total of 10 monthly medal rounds will be played until December and top 40 golfers in nett category, 10 in gross and five in junior section will make it to the Club Championship finals which will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.
