Juventus win

Milan, April 17:

David Trezeguet and Raffaele Palladino scored first-half goals to lead Juventus over Parma 3-0 in a rescheduled Serie A game on Wednesday.

Trezeguet tapped in an easy shot following a melee in the area in the 16th minute. Replays showed the French striker was offside. Palladino added an insurance goal in the 30th. Parma midfielder Stefano Morrone headed in an own goal in the 76th to make it 3-0.

The win gives Juventus 64 points in the Italian league and solidifies the team’s hold on third place. Inter is first with 75 points followed by AS Roma at 71. Fiorentina is fourth with 56.

The Juventus-Parma game made up for one canceled on March 30 after a bus full of Juventus supporters ran over and killed a Parma fan at a highway rest stop.

In an Italian Cup first-leg semi-final, Francesco Totti scored in the 46th minute and Roma defeated Catania 1-0. Totti fired a powerful shot from well outside the area that caught Catania goalkeeper Ciro Polito by surprise.

Roma dominated most of the game and had several opportunities to increase their lead, but was unable to convert. Inter and Lazio played to 0-0 in the other semi-final. The return legs will be on May 7 with the final on May 24.
