Shrestha, Chaudhary set new national marks

Tribhuvan Army Club’s Kamala Shrestha set three national records in the first Nepal’s Strongest-2017 — Sunil Lal Joshi Memorial Weightlifting Championship — in Lalitpur today.

In the women’s 63kg junior event, Shrestha lifted a total weight of 143kg, including 62kg in snatch and 81kg in clean and jerk, to set the new mark breaking Sonam Chaudhary’s record. Chaudhary had lifted 35kg in snatch and 53kg in clean and jerk for a total lift of 88kg during Lumbini Championship held four years ago. TAC’s Manita Shrestha came second after lifting a total weight of 141kg that included 61kg in snatch and 80kg in clean and jerk.

In the senior’s section, Shanti Chaudhary of Saptari won gold after she lifted 55kg in snatch and 68kg in clean and jerk for a total lift of 123kg. TAC’s Usha Khadka claimed silver with a total lift of122kg that included 55kg in snatch and 67kg in clean and jerk.

In senior’s 53kg, Sanju Chaudhary of Banke won gold with a national record. Chaudhary lifted a total weight of 138kg, including 57kg in snatch and 81kg in clean and jerk. Earlier, Chaudhary had lifted 80kg in clean and jerk during the Asian Junior Weightlifting Championship held in Nepal in July.

In junior’s event, Kabita Chaudhary of Banke claimed gold with a total weight of 86kg — 35kg in snatch and 51kg in clean and jerk. Santoshi Yadav of Saptari won silver medal with a total lift of 61kg, including 27kg in snatch and 34kg in clean and jerk. In junior’s 48kg, Karina Chaudhary of Jhapa came first after she lifted 28kg in snatch and 37kg in clean and jerk for a total weight of 65kg. Sarita Yadav of Saptari was second with a total lift of 63kg that included 30kg in snatch and 33kg in clean and jerk.

In senior section, TAC’s Rita Kumari Gurung claimed gold with a total lift of 85kg, including 40kg in snatch and 45kg in clean and jerk. Tara Kumari Chaudhary of Banke came second as she lifted a total of 60kg — 25kg in snatch and 35kg in clean and jerk. In the junior’s 58kg event, Tikamaya Gurung of Kaski won gold medal. Gurung lifted a total weight of 114kg that included 50kg in snatch and 64kg in clean and jerk. Kajal Yadav of Saptari won silver with a total lift of 77kg, including 35kg in snatch and 42kg in clean and jerk.

In the senior section, TAC’s Manisha Ranabhat came first with a total lift of 113kg that included 48kg in snatch and 65kg in clean and jerk. In junior’s 69kg, Priyanka Shah Thakuri of Life Physical Fitness came first as she lifted 38kg in snatch and 43kg in clean and jerk for a total weight of 81kg, while Puja Kumal of Chitwan finished second after she lifted 36kg in snatch and 40kg in clean and jerk for a total lift of 76kg.

In senior 75kg, TAC’s Man Kumari Kumal lifted 50kg in snatch and 70kg in clean and jerk for a total lift of 120kg. Her teammate Ashmita Rai lifted 50kg in snatch and 55kg in clean and jerk for a total weight of 105kg to finish second. In the junior boys’ 56kg section, Ram Kumar Yadav of Saptari won

gold medal with a total lift of 160kg, while Tushar BM of Banke came second with 132kg. In senior section, Manoj Yadav of Saptari lifted a total weight of 175kg to finish first, while Tularam Mahato of TAC lifted a total weight of 165kg to win silver.
