Karna Singh Sonam advance to last four

Karna Singh Sonam Memorial Club of Taplejung defeated Church Boys FC of Kathmandu 6-1 and sailed into the semi-finals of the eighth Tuborg Falgunanda Gold Cup Football Tournament in Phidim today.

Segun completed a hat-trick, while Sunil Bal scored a brace and Nirajan Khadka netted a goal for Taplejung, while Martines scored the consolation goal for Church Boys.

Church Boys took the lead in the 13th minute through Martines’ goal. However, Taplejung bounced back strongly as they managed to score two goals in the first half and added four more after the interval.

Khadka levelled the tally in the 38th minute, while Segun put the Taplejung team ahead before the break. Segun made it 3-1 in the 47th minute and Bal found the back of the nets in the 60th minute.

Segun completed his hat-trick in the 71st minute and Bal scored his second goal in the 75th to seal the victory for Taplejung by 6-1.

On Thursday, hosts Phidim Sporting Club will face Birta United Club of Jhapa for a place in the final.

A total of 10 teams from Nepal, Bhutan and India are taking part in the tournament organised by Phidim Sporting Club in memory of national hero Falgunand Lingden.
