Kathmandu hammer Baitadi
Kathmandu, May 31:
Sharad Vesawkar slammed a magnificent century as Region No 3 (Kathmandu) hammered Region No 6 Baitadi by 295 runs in the inaugural match of the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament here at the TU Stadium today.
Batting first, Kathmandu piled a massive 326-6 in 50 overs. Baitadi were packed for 31 runs in 23 overs. Kathmandu lost openers Uddyan Shakya (13) and Subhash Khakurel (3) at 30 in the seventh over. Vesawkar and Gyanendra Malla (28) consolidated the innings with 89-run stand for the third wicket.
Vesawkar’s 127-ball 153 included 20 fours and three sixes. He took 54 ball to score his half century and another 50 deliveries to complete the century. After crossing three-figure mark, Vesawkar turned more aggressive and took only 20 balls to add another 50. He eventually ran himself out in the 45th over.
Man of the match Vesawkar and Sunam Gautam (37) put on 121 runs for the fifth wicket stand. Dipen Shrestha scored not out 22 and Rom Shrestha unbeaten 18. Chandra Saud took 2-62 for Baitadi.
In reply, Baitadi lost their first wicket in the second over when skipper Paras Khadka trapped Binod Bhandari (2) leg before with his fifth ball. Khadka also dismissed Naresh Budayer (0) and Dipendra Bhandari (2).
Ashok Chand top-scored with 10 off 43 balls for Baitadi as wickets fell in regular intervals.
Raman Shrestha then wiped out the four other Baitadi batsmen to complete the rout. Raman returned with economical 4-4 in his four-over spell and Paras 3-7 in five overs. Rom Shrestha took two and Avay Rana one wicket.
