Kathmandu Open Int’l Taekwondo kicks off

Kathmandu, May 18

Nepal won a gold medal in boys’ U-12 team poomsae event of the second Kathmandu Open International Taekwondo Tournament that kicked off today at the NSC covered hall.

The team of Aman Devkota, Rijan Tamang and Bishesh Maharjan won the gold, while team of Upashak Ghimire, Manish Gajurel and Ujjwal Ghimire bagged silver medal. Similarly, the team of Nabin Shrestha, Pratik Shrestha and Yabanindan Dahal claimed gold in U-15 category, while team of Laxman Gole, Ram Gole and Ashmit Raut bagged gold in U-19 section.

In girls’ U-17 individual poomsae, Prashanna Khadka and Srijana Rijal Jaisi won gold and silver medals respectively, while Binita Lama and Jiniya Rana took bronze medals. In the U-17 mixed doubles event, Pujan Ranabhat and Binita Lama claimed gold, while Chaman Thapa Magar and Jiniya Rana won silver medals.

In black belt pair of 17-19, Ashmin Tamang and Binita Tamang won gold, while Tilak Pun Magara and Sunita Bista took silver. India’s Saroj Gurung won gold medal in men’s below-39 poomsae, while Nepal’s Ashish Chand won silver medal.

In men’s below-21 kyorugi, Nepal’s Aman Shrestha and Sushant Pandey advanced to final, while Tilak BK and Deepak Badi made it to the final of below-25. In para-taekwondo section, Nepal’s Palesha Gowardhan and Sita Bhandari won gold and silver medals in women’s below-48kg.
