Khum guides MMC into semis
Itahari, April 2:
Khum Gurung scored the winner in the extra time as Carlsberg Manang Marsyangdi Club came from behind to defeat Dhruba Tara Sporting Club 3-2 and entered the semi-finals of the Itahari Gold Cup football tournament here today.
After a 2-2 draw in the normal time, Gurung scored the goal in the 10th of the added 15-minute time on a pass from Rishi Rai, who netted twice in the regular period.
Earlier, Dhruba Tara Sporting Club took an early lead through skipper Suman Bhandari’s goal in the fifth minute.
Despite playing attacking game after conceding the goal, MMC had to wait 32 minutes to level the scores.
Rishi Rai not only drew level in the 37th minute but also put his team ahead 10 minutes later with his second goal of the match.
Rai was later named the man of the match.
Dhruba Tara Club returned into the match in the 85th minute when Dipen Shrestha netted an equaliser capitalising on the weak defence. In all, MMC wasted four scoring opportunities, while Dhruba Tara came close to scoring five times.
Hosts Rastriya Jagriti Club will play against Himal Shree Club of Kalimpong in the last quarter-final match on Tuesday.
