King Khan clinch hockey crown

Kathmandu, May 30

King Khan Club of Dubai won the title of the first King Khan Nepal Indoor Hockey Tournament here at the National Sports Council covered hall on Monday.

The main sponsors of the tournament, King Khan defeated Kathmandu Hockey Club 9-0 in final riding on a hat-trick from Ali Raja. Raja was declared the best player of the tournament, while Kishor Jung Ojha of Royal Gorkha was named the best goalkeeper. In the third-place match, Royal Gorkha defeated Nepal Army 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the regulation 20 minutes.

A total of eight teams took part in the tournament and they were divided into two groups. Earlier, King Khan defeated Nepal Army Club 9-1 and registered 9-0 victories against Janakpur Hockey Club and Mansarobar Youth Club of Humla to top Group A. In Group B, Kathmandu Hockey Club beat Pokhara Hockey Club 6-2 and edged past Kanchan Samaj 1-0 before playing a 1-1 draw with Royal Gorkha.

NSC Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista, President of Nepal Hockey Association Umesh Lal Shrestha, President of King Khan Club Ali Khan and President of NSC Employees Association Ranjan Thapa among others handed over the prizes to the winners of the tournament organised jointly by Nepal Hockey Association and Kathmandu Hockey Club.
