Lalitpur Patriots fall short of six runs to Biratnagar Warriors

KATHMANDU: The Lalitpur Patriots who earlier had defeated Kathmandu Kings XI in their inaugural fixture fell short of six runs to Biratnagar Warriors in their second encounter of the Everest Premier League played at the TU Cricket Stadium, on Tuesday.

After winning the toss Lalitpur Patriots invited Biratnagar Warriors to take the first strike.

Lalitpur Partiots Pakistani pace bowler Suboth Bhati took the wicket of Aasif Sheikh's wicket in the second over to peg back their innings.

Pakistani Babar Hayat played sensibly and built the innings momentum with his 34 runs off 25 balss with five fours and a six before failing to leg before wicket to leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane.

Skipper Paras Khadka anchored the inning as Anil Sah late blitz helped them post a challenging total to the opposition.

Khadka made 38 runs off 36 balls with two towering sixes while Sah hit 47 runs off 35 balls with three humongous sixes and two hits to the fence.

Sandeep Lamichhane took two wickets while Suboth Bhati and Indian spinner Yogesh Nagar chipped in with a wicket each.

In reply, Lalitpur Patriots fell short of six runs to captitulate victory to the oppositon. Pawan Sarraf top scored with 51 runs of 47 balls with six fours and a six.

Biratnagar Warriors took two quick crucial wicket of Kolsawala and skipper Gyanendra Malla to exert pressue on the run chase.

Yogesh Nagar and Kushal Bhurtel scored in mid twenties however failed to take their team home. Pawan Sarraf trying to up the ante in the 15th over perished trying to dispached Anshuman Rath delivery into the hands of puspa Thapa.

Biratnagar Warriors took wickets at regular interval to exert relentless pressure on the batsmen. Karan KC snared two wickets while skipper Khadka, Basanta Regmi and Snshuman Rath took a wicket each.

With today's victory, Biratnagar Warriors have bagged two points in the table.
