Lama takes lead

KATHMANDU: Phuntsok Norbu Lama took the lead after the first day of the Ghana Shyam’s Professional Jubilee Golf Championship here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club on Friday. In the amateur tournament organised for social golfers, Lama accumulated 37 points to remain at the top of the table. Played under stableford full handicap format, the two-handicap amateur scored 18 points on the front nine before adding 19 on the latter half. Rabindra Tiwari is second with 36 points, while Mithun Rai, Madhav Simkhada and Atmaram Simkhada share the third position with 35 points. Rekha Ghimire is at the top of the women’s section with 34 points. A total of 28 golfers completed their rounds on Friday, while 60 others are scheduled to play on Saturday. The tournament is part of Ghana Shyam’s Professional Jubilee Golf Championship sponsored by first Nepali pro Ghana Shyam Thapa to mark his 50 years in professional golf. Top pro Shivaram Shrestha won the main event on Thursday with the 72-hole score of 12-under 260.
