Lama wins gold for Nepal

Kathmandu, January 9:
Minu Lama of Nepal won gold medal in the 25-30kg weight category beating India’s Itisha in the first All Karate Open International Championship, which has been organised by Nepal Kwanmukan Karate Do Association, here today.
The Himalayan Times is the official media of the five-day international championship. India’s Renu and Bangladesh’s Musharal Jahan Shiuli were joint third in the cate]gory.
In 40-kg weight category, Pratima Darshan of Nepal came first and Sajida Afreen of Bangladesh finished second, while Nanu Thapa Magar of Nepal and Nasrin Artar of Bangladesh were declared the joint third.
On the second day of the championship, Jonathan Mehu of USA and Mandev Kaji Shrestha of Nepal grabbed top two spots in the junior boys section
kata, while Arjun and Aditya, both from India, were joint third.
In senior boys kata, Purnaman Balami of Nepal defeated Aron Kaldewell of USA, while Mohd Gousalwari of Bangladesh and Noh Holope of USA came joint third.
In junior girls’ individual kata, Subhadra Shrestha of Nepal won gold, Adisa Tulaja of India took silver, and Chandani Thakur of India and Nasrin Arter Papi of Bangladesh won bronze medals.
Farhana Begum of Bangladesh and Bina Suwal of Nepal claimed top two spots in the women’s individual kata, while Moriam Begum of Bangladesh and Giyul A Surkhat of India came joint third.
In senior women’s team kata section, Nepal won gold and Bangladesh took bronze, while the result remained same in the junior girls’ section team kata.
The remaining matches will be held on Monday.
