Kathmandu, September 16 Ligligkot Development Expedition is organising the Liglige Marathon on September 25 at the historic Ligligkot in Gorkha district. The 13.8km race will start from Chepeghat and end at the Ligligkot Durbar, informed Expedition’s President Purna Bahadur Rana at a press meet today. Rana said the event was being organised with the aim of preserving the culture as well as promoting tourism in the region. Race Director Lila Shrestha said around 150 runners, including 50 women athletes, will take part in the event. He also informed that four athletes from Maldives had also registered for the race. Nepal’s top long- distance runners Bhumi Raj Rai, Hari Rimal, Kanchhi Maya Koju, Santoshi Shrestha among others are also taking part in the event. Top three athletes in men’s category will get Rs 50,505, Rs 30,305 and Rs 20,205, while runners finishing from fourth to eighth will receive Rs 10,105, Rs 5,005, Rs 4,005, Rs 3,005 and Rs 2,005 respectively. Similarly, top three athletes in women and local athletes’ category will get Rs 15,005, Rs 10,005 and Rs 5,005 respectively. Out of the total budget of Rs 1.4 million, National Sports Council would provide the organisers with Rs 50,000 and Palungtar Municipality will support Rs 350,000.
