Little Angels claim team championship
KATHMANDU: Little Angels (LA) School claimed the team championship of the second HIMS Inter-school Swimming Championships adding seven more gold medals in the final day here today.
LA, who won five gold
medals on Tuesday, collected 106 points while Baba Boarding School ended up as runners up with 88 points. Baba claimed nine gold medals. Shuvatara, who claimed four gold, finished third with 62 points.
Jitzwelly Maharjan won two gold medals for LA winning
the Girls’ (13-14yrs) 50m
backstroke and 50m freestyle. Maharjan timed 50.90 to
win the backstroke and 40.91
to claim freestyle. It was her
third gold in the meet. LA also took the silver and bronze in the 50m backstroke and silver in 50m freestyle.
LA started the day winning the U-10 boys’ 25m backstroke win, Bibek Gurung finishing first in 21.94. His schoolmate Samrakshan Thapa won silver (22.62). LA’s Manish Chitrakar won his second gold in the tournament claiming the Boys’ (11-12yrs) 50m backstroke in 39.22. Samita Magar sealed the Girls’ (over 15) 50m backstroke title finishing in 52.91 and Dawa Dolma Sherpa clocked 58.72 to clinch the Girls’ (11-12yrs) 50m backstroke. LA earned another gold when Sanjeet Chaudhari won the Boys’ (U-10) 25m freestyle with a timing of 16.78 seconds.
Baba School, who were head to head with LA on the opening day, could add only four gold today. Prakash Adhikari alone won two gold claiming the Boys’ (Above-15) 50m backstroke and 15-17 yrs 50 freestyle. Adhikari, who had to content himself with two silver medals on the first day, clocked 39.13 in the backstroke and 31.94 in the freestyle. His schoolmate Banin Sensha Shrestha took silver in both the events. The duo later helped Baba to win the Boys’ Open 4x50m freestyle relay. Sadichya Singh Thakuri won her second gold for Baba finishing the Girls’ (15-17yrs) 50m freestyle in 46.44.
Sheila Devi Gurung of Kathmandu Valley won two
more titles today to take her gold tally to three. Gurung clocked 1:37.28 to claim the Girls’ Open Individual Medley before winning the Girls’ (Below-10) 25m backstroke in 21.19.
Jayanta Prakash Gurung, who won a gold yesterday, also clinched two more gold today for Kathmandu Valley. He won the Boys’ (13-14yrs) 50m backstroke in 37.56 and the Boys’ (13-14yrs) 50m freestyle in 32.34.
Shuvatara’s only gold of
the day came after Simran Sherchan claimed the Girls’ (11-12yrs) 50m freestyle in 47.20. Likewise, Seung Hwi Seo won Rupy International a gold medal in the Boys’ (11-12yrs) 50m freestyle with the timing of 33.60. Manish Chitrakar (35.41) and Mukesh Rai (37.40) of LA won the silver and bronze.
The British School also claimed gold with Anjalee Syngbo winning the Girls’ (U-10) 25m freestyle in 17.69. Sheila Devi Gurung of Kathmandu Valley won silver in the event.
