Deep Jyoti in final
KATHMANDU: Deep Jyoti and Valley Public School advanced to the girls’ section final of the first Kathmandu Valley Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Monday. Deep Jyoti saw off New Summit 36-10 and Valley Public defeated Angel Heart 25-15 in semi-finals. Meanwhile, hosts Kathmandu Valley also made it to the final in the boys’ section with a narrow 43-39 win over Gyan Niketan. Campion and Valley Public will meet in the other semi-final on Tuesday. — HNS
NIMS, Unique win
KATHMANDU: Nitin Memorial School (NIMS) edged past Pennwood 44-42 and Unique School overcame Wilson Academy 66-48 in the first Inter-school Boys Basketball Tournament on Monday. Chhiring scored 20 for NIMS
while Jugal contributed 18 for Unique. In the other match, hosts Reliance defeated Gyan Niketan 45-35 riding on 12 points from Nima Sherpa. In all, eight teams are participating in the tournament organised jointly by Alfa Nepal Tours & Travels and Reliance International Academy. — HNS
TT Championship
KATHMANDU: Adarsha Vidhya Mandir (AVM) and Bijeswori Secondary School claimed the team championships here at the third Gautam Buddha Memorial Table Tennis Tournament on Monday. AVM beat Bijeswori 3-1 to win the boys’ team event while Bijeswori claimed the girls’ team event title with a 3-2 win over Puspasadan. The tournament features eight categories - boys’ and girls team events, U-16 boys’ and girls’, U-14 boys’ and girls’, and U-12 boys
and girls. Finalists in the
individual events will get Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 respectively while
the two third-place players in
all the individual events will
also receive Rs 5,00 each, said the National Table Tennis Training Centre, the organisers. — HNS
Dandi-Biyo tourney
KATHMANDU: Suresh Panthi scored 61 points as Nepal Paragliding and Hanggliding Association (NPHA) defeated Nepal Wrestling Association 182-128 in the first Panther National Inter-Association Dandi-Biyo Tournament here on Monday. In another match, Nepal Wado-Ryu Karate-do Renmei Sunduju Association beat Handball Association 172-99. Five teams got walkover wins on Monday. Six teams were awarded the walkover wins on Sunday. — HNS
Pashupatinath win
KATHMANDU: Pashupatinath Brigade defeated Armed Police Force (APF) Headquarter team 25-19, 25-16, 25-20 in the final of the third APF Running Trophy Volleyball Tournament on Monday. Raj Kumar Chaudhary of Pashupatinath was declared the best player of the tournament participated in by seven teams. The top two teams received Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. Armed Police Force IGP Sanat Kumar Basnet gave away prizes to the winners. Basnet also handed over the flag to Baraha Brigade of Sunsari, who finished third, to organise the fourth edition of the tournament. — HNS
