Yadav trio triumph
KALAIYA: Local favourites Mohan Yadav, Bramha Dev Yadav and Satendra Yadav won championships at the seventh National Wrestling Tournament. Mohan claimed 66kg title while Madan Yadav and Sunoj Yadav finished second and third respectively. Bramha Dev bagged the 96kg gold, while Satendra claimed the 120kg gold. Making it the finals were Brij Kishor Kishor Yadav and Mukhtar Alam in 55kg, Jay Mangal Yadav and Arun Roy in 60kg, Sumir Sah and Bunilal Raut in 74kg, and Sujit Pandit and Pralahd Yadav in 84kg. — HNS
National squash
LALITPUR: Hira Thapa, Suresh Gurung, Prajwol Rawat, Gam Prasad Gurung, Sudip Bahadur Singh and Prajwol Pradhan advanced to the men’s open quarter-finals at the fourth National Squash Open Tournament. Hira beat Rajesh Mani Ghimire 9-2, 9-1, 9-0, while Suresh defeated Kishor Maharjan 9-6, 9-3, 9-7 and Prajwol edged out Lal Bahadur Gurung 4-9, 5-9, 9-0, 9-3, 4-9. Gam Prasad overcame Ratna Kaji Shakya 9-7, 9-0, 9-3, Sudip crushed Mahendra Lal Maharjan 9-1, 9-1, 9-0 and Prajwol Pradhan beat Surendra Silwal 9-6, 9-5, 10-9. In the women’s league match, Chhitij Gurung rallied to a 8-10, 6-9, 9-0, 9-5, 9-6 win over Krishna Thapa. Also advancing to the last eight of the novice section were Binod Ratna Shakya, Rajendra Tuladhar, Anil Narsingha Shakya and Robin Gurung. — HNS
Military Sports
KATHMANDU: Col Bhai Krishna Khatri and Capt Janmat Karki of Nepali Army are leaving for Hyderabad as observers of the fourth World Military Sports Tournament to be organised by the International Sports Military Council (CISM) beginning from October 13. The event will be participated in by the CISM member countries and invitees. The Nepali Army, which is not its member, was invited as an observer. — HNS
