Katuwal sets national records
KATHMANDU: Jhanta Katuwal set three national records at the 76th Men’s and 19th Women’s World Weightlifting Championship in Thailand on Saturday. Jhanta — the first ever Nepali woman weightlifting player to take part in international competition — lifted 70kg in snatch and 85kg in clean and jerk for a total of 155kg. The earlier record was 67kg in snatch, 77kg in clean and jerk and 144kg in total. Another lifter, Rakesh Ranjit also participated in the tournament. — HNS
Greenland make it to quarters
KATHMANDU: Greenland School advanced to the girls’ section quarter-finals at the second Valley Public Inter-school Basketball Tournament bating Brihaspati 9-4. Golden Peak got a walkover win from LRI in another girls’ match. In boys’ section matches, Valley Public ‘A, Don Bosco, Greenland, Brihaspati and Elite Co-Ed won their matches. Lyceum got a walkover win from Daffodils. — HNS
Fishtail, Gyan Baba enter final
KATHMANDU: Fishtail Academy and Gyan Baba made it to the women’s section final of the second Nationwide Chhantyal Cup Open Volleyball Tournament. Fishtail ousted Top Boarding School of Pokhara 25-13, 25-13, 26-28, 27-25 and Gyan Baba beat SEB School 25-16, 25-17, 25-22. Top won the third place with a 25-11, 25-23, 25-19 win over SEB. ECS Manpower beat Deep Jyoti 25-22, 25-15, 25-22 in the men’s third-place decider. — HNS
