Squad announced
KATHMANDU: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced the 19-member preliminary squad for the ACC Twenty20 Cup cricket tournament to be held in Kuwait from October 25 to November 2. According to the CAN, the players — selected by the National Selected Committee headed by Bijay Kumar Sharma —will be kept under closed camp in Kathmandu from early October. The preliminary squad includes Binod Das, Paras Khadka, Paresh Lohani, Sharad Vesawkar, Shakti Gauchan, Mehboob Alam, Basanta Regmi, Akash Gupta, Dipendra Chaudhary, Amrit Bhattarai, Rahul Kumar BK, Gyanendra Malla, Mahesh Chhetry, Aamir Akhtar, Dhirendra Chand, Sanjam Regmi, Sunil Bista, Avay Rana and Dipesh Khatri. — HNS
SCP Super Sixes
KATHMANDU: Soaltee Crowne Plaza (SCP) is organising the ninth SCP Super Sixes Cricket Tournament from September 19-23 at the TU Stadium. In all, 20 teams including APCA Nepal are taking part in the event. “We had sent invitations to 37 teams and registered 20 teams on first come first serve basis,” said Sarad Upadhyay, F&B Manager at the SCP and coordinator of the event. The 20 teams are divided into four pools and the top two each will advance to the quarter-finals. The finals are slated for September 23. Apart form the winners and runners up trophies, the best batsman, bowler and the man of the series will also be awarded, said Upadhyay. — HNS
TT team departs
KATHMANDU: A nine-member team left for China to participate in the 18th Asian Table Tennis Tournament to be held there from September 16-23. Ajay Suwal, Ranjit Singh Rayamajhi, Shiva Sundar Gothe, Muna Basukala, Gita Magar and Sandhya Shakya will take part in seven various events. All Nepal Table Tennis Association president Chatura nanda Vaidya, general secretary Shankar Gautam and coach Brijendra Hamal are also in the team. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Himalayan Sherpa Club beat Sanepa Club 3-1 in the Western Union Martyrs Memorial C Division Football League on Friday. Komal Khawas, Dinesh Karki and Surendra Thapa scored for the winners, while Basanta Subba netted the consolation goal for Sanepa. In the other match, Shree Kumari Club defeated Naxal Yuba Mandal 2-1. Nabindra Maharjan put Shree Kumari ahead in the third minute, while Kumar Thapa levelled the scores in the 57th. Rajib Yadav scored the winner in the 87th minute. Similarly, Navaraj Ghale struck twice and Sujan Limbu and Leku Gurung netted one each as Kumari Club thrashed Battisputali Youth Club 4-0 in the last match of the day. — HNS
