Cricketers felicitated

KATHMANDU: Golden Gate International College felicitated the ACC Under-19 Elite Cup winners here on Monday. The Nepali U-19 team won the fourth consecutive U-19 title defeating Afghanistan in final recently in Kuala Lumpur. Bhola Pohkarel, Principal of the college, handed over a cheque of Rs 25,000 to the team. During the programme, Chief Executive Officer of the college Ramesh Silwal announced that their college would provide a scholarship amounting from Rs 100,000 to Rs 300,000 to any member of the winning team. Meanwhile, Himalayan White House College also feted the winning team with a cheque of Rs 25,000 later in the evening. The college also awarded the captain of the winning team Paras Khadka with a purse of Rs 5,000. Paras is the student of White House College.— HNS

Solidarity course ends

KATHMANDU: A week-long Olympic Solidarity Taekwondo Technical Course, conducted by a 9th DAN Korean instructor BJ Lee, concluded here on Monday. In total, 108 taekwondo coaches from all over the country participated in the course organised to upgrade the standard of the game. Speaking on the occasion, Nepal Taekwondo Association president Rukma Shumsher Rana said that the course would help coaches gain technical expertise which they will pass over to their students. President of the Nepal Olympic Committee Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan was also present on the occasion. — HNS

NRSF unveils programme

KATHMANDU: Nepal Republican Sports Federation (NRSF) unveiled its future programme here on Monday. The NRSF is planning to organise district-level and zonal training and sports festivals as well as the second National Nepal Republican Sports Festival in the next six months. They also informed that the NRSF executive body will be extended to 35 from the previously 32-member committee in near future. The NRSF also nominated Mahesh Newa and vice-president Ran Sangram Bista as central executive member and speaker respectively. The federation thanked Nepal Taekwondo Association president Rukma Shumsher Rana for resolving the tension between the Republican Taekwondo Association and the members of the Olympic Solidarity Taekwondo Technical Course. The tension between the two delayed the start of the solidarity course for two days but ended when 10 additional coaches were included for the programme. The solidarity course was originally scheduled for August 28 to September 3. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Seema Karki netted eight points as Mahendra Bhawan School defeated Bishnumati School 21-4 while Greeland School edged past Gillete International School 19-16 in the girl’s section matches here at the first Forward Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Monday. Mt Glory School eased past Arunodaya Academy 39-12 and Greenland beat Golden Peak School 24-22 in boy’s section matches. — HNS

‘C’ Division League

KATHMANDU: Simanta Gurung scored an injury time goal to give Chakrapath Youth Club 4-3 win over Garuda Sports Club in the Western Union Martyrs Memorial ‘C’ Division League Football here at the Dasharath Stadium on Monday. Also, Ram Kumar Raut scored a brace and Niraj Thapa Magar added another for Chakrapath while Som Thapa, Sushil Chhetri and Pukar Chhetri converted for Garuda. In the second game, Chyasal Youth Club defeated Sachham Nagar Tol Sudhar Samuha (SNTSS) 3-1. Shyam Magar, Nabin Deula and Chakra Byanjankar scored a goal each for Chyasal while Surendra Tamang pulled one back for SNTTS. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Neha Chaudhary scored 32 points as Rhododendron International Boarding School (RIBS) annihilated Malpi International College 89-32 at the third Fr Watrin Women’s Open Basketball Tournament here on Monday. Shrine Academy thrashed Oasis 61-36 earlier in the inaugural match. Maya Shyangden netted the highest 15 points for Shrine. — HNS
