Shrestha clinches gold:

KATHMANDU: Sagar Shrestha of Nepal won the 20-30kg gold medal at the fifth Indo-Nepal Shotokan Karate Championship organised by Nepal Shotokan Karate Association (SKIF) in Kathmandu from June 23-24. The other winners were Raj Kumar Shrestha (30-35kg), Khum Bahadur Lama (35-40kg), Sachin Pandit (40-45kg),

Nikash Thapa Magar (45-50kg), Prakash Maharjan (50-55kg), Suman Awal (55-60kg), Ramesh Gurung (60-65kg), Salinder Kumar of India (70-75kg), Rajesh Sharma of India (above-75kg). Sangamam Serwan of India and Suman Awal of Nepal won the junior and senior section kata golds respectively, while Anisha Tamang of Nepal won the women’s single kata. The winners in women’s kumite were Jasmina Khadka (30-35kg), Deepa Thapa Magar (40-45kg) and Puja of India (above 50kg). National Sports Council member Laxman Shrestha, SKIF president Sudarshan Lal Shrestha, Nepal National and International Players’ Association president Rajeshwor Man Sthapit and chief coach Niwas Gopal Vaidya gave away prizes to the winners. — HNS

Karate postponed:

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Karate Federation has postponed the Regional Karate Championship (Central Region). The tournament, which was originally scheduled for July 5-6, will now be held on July 11-12 in Panauti, Kavre, said the National Sports Council here on Monday. — HNS

Bishal Bazaar triumph:

LALITPUR: Bishal Bazaar defeated Tribhuvan University (TU) by three wickets in the final of the first Serious Fun Cricket Tournament, organised by Shangri-La Cricket Academy at The British School. Put into bat first in the eight-a-side tournament, TU scored 101/5 in their allotted 15 overs and Bishal Bazaar chased the target losing four wickets in 13.1 overs. Prem Raj scored 27 for TU, while Hitesh made unbeaten 31 and Sandeep scored not out 18 for Bishal Bazaar. — HNS

Wilson, Shuvatara win:

KATHMANDU: Wilson Academy thrashed Shuvatara School 37-6 in the first Lalitpur Districtwide Basketball Championship here on Monday. Anil Pandey of Wilson top-scored

in the match with 16 points, while Shubigya netted four for Shuvatara. In the other match, Shuvatara outplayed New Summit 26-7. Shubigya scored 11 points for the winners and Manish netted five for New Summit. The quarter-finals will be held on Tuesday. — HNS
