FPA committee formed

KATHMANDU: A group of 42 players formed the Football Players’ Association (FPA) preparation committee under the convenorship of Raju Kaji Shakya, former national team skipper. The committee also includes the likes of Upendra Man Singh, Hari Khadka, Dev Narayan Chaudhary, Bal Gopal Maharjan, Kumar Thapa, Rajesh Shahi, Pravesh Katuwal, Suraj Khaling, Mrigendra Mishra, Babukaji Dhaubanjar, Sahila Maharjan, Ramesh Budhathoki, and Basanta Gauchan among others. The prime objectives of the association, according to a release, are to prepare the bylaws; fight for the welfare of the footballers; and to have representatives in the ANFA. — HNS

Fr Watrin Basketball Tournament

KATHMANDU: Himalayan White House, K&K, Public Youth Campus and Bishal Nagar Youth Club entered the semi-finals of the fourth Fr Watrin Basketball Tournament. In the day’s quarter-finals, White House beat Southsiders 54-38, K&K defeated Shankar Dev Campus 48-34, Public Youth outplayed Kathmandudes 46-38 and Bishal Nagar overwhelmed FW Taylor 62-37. — HNS

Central Region finish first

KATHMANDU: Central Region finished first with 100 points in athletics at the 26th Athletics, 29th Boys’ and seventh Girls’ Volleyball Inter-school National Tournament organised by National Sports Council. Mid Western and Far Western Regions came second and third with 88 and 37 points respectively. In Girls’ Volleyball, Western, Far Western and Mid Western Region claimed top three spots while Central, Western and Mid Western Regions came first, second and third respectively in Boys’ Volleyball. Keshari Chaudhary, who set two national records, and Ratan Lal Chaudhary were declared the best in girls and boys’ athletics. Both the Western Region athletes won three gold medals each. Sipora Gurung and Uttam Katuwal were named best in volleyball. — HNS

HIMS Inter-school Basketball

KATHMANDU: Defending champions RIBS defeated Green land 50-25 in the second day match at the third HIMS Inter-school Basketball Tournament. Suyog Shrestha top-scored with 12 points for the winners. In other matches, Young Heart beat Shuvatara (Sanepa) 38-36, Sambotta defeated TIA 42-28, Shri Diwa outplayed Namgyal 30-20, and Unique overwhelmed Baba 67-45. — HNS

APF Volleyball Tournament

KATHMANDU: Vaidhyanath Brigade defeated Rudra Brigade 25-19, 25-10, 25-22 in the inaugural match of the first Armed Police Force (APF) Running Trophy Volleyball Tournament on Friday. In the other match, Muktinath Brigade beat Maheshwori Brigade 25-12, 17-25, 25-19, 25-13. Earlier, AIG Rohit Thapa inaugurated the tournament at Nilbarahi Battalion, Balambu. In all, seven teams from Brigades and APF Headquarter are taking part in the tournament. — HNS
