Full Contact Karate

KATHMANDU: Nepal Kyokushin Karate-Do Association (NKKA) is organising the ninth Men’s and eighth Women’s National Full Contact Karate Tournament on July 6-7. The event include three weight categories in men’s section — below-55kg, below-65kg and above-65kg — and Open weight category for women, said NKKA in a press meet. In all, 60 men and 30 women players selected from five development regions will vie for the championships. The top three winners in the women’s section will get Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,500 respectively along with a Rs 1,000 award for the best player. The top three winners and a best player in men’s sections will receive Rs 5,000, Rs 2,500, Rs 1,200 and Rs 500 respectively. The NKKA also announced that Purushottom Rijal and Birendra Oli were selected to represent Nepal in the 11th Asian Open Full Contact Karate Champion slated for late July in Shanghai. — HNS

LALITPUR: Pashupati Multiple Campus and St Xavier’s entered the quarter-finals of the Akhil Cup Valleywide Inter-college Football here on Monday. Rajendra Rawal scored two and Bikash Maharjan one goal as Pashupati Campus blanked Manabiki Campus 3-0 while St Xavier’s edged out Tri Chandra 1-0 on a goal from Ayush Bista. In another match, Kiran Rai scored a decider as Xavier International defeated Shree Padma Higher Secondary School 1-0. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Bipen Shrestha scored 28 points as defending champions Himalayan White House International College crushed Shankar Dev Campus 95-43 in the fourth Fr Watrin Basketball Championship on Monday. In other matches, Public Youth Campus beat Don Bosco 65-45, K&K sneaked past Southsiders 58-53 and FW Taylor beat Learning Realm International 62-61 in a nail-biting match. Bijay Khatri netted the highest 26 points for FW Taylor.— HNS
