AFC President’s Cup postponed

KATHMANDU: The third AFC President’s Cup slated for May 17-27 in Lahore was postponed indefinitely on Sunday. “The latest political turn around in Pakistan might have forced the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to take the decision,” said Ganesh Thapa, the president of the organising committee. ANFA president Thapa added that the AFC consulted him before taking the decision. Nepal’s Mahendra Police Club was slated to leave for Lahore on Monday. — HNS

Baluwatar win

KATHMANDU: Baluwatar Cricket Club beat Mahavir Club by five wickets to win the Kathmandu District Senior Selection Cricket Tournament. Mahavir were bowled out for 70 runs in 19.3 overs. Gyanendra Malla top scored with 20 runs for Mahavir. Abhay Rana and Raj Shrestha claimed three wickets each for Baluwatar. In reply, Baluwatar chased the total in 19.3 overs for the loss of five wickets. Dipendra Chaudhary of Mahavir won the man of the series award. Raj shrestha was named the best bowler and Gyanendra Malla the best batsman. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Dinesh Karki scored nine goals alone as Trungram International Academy (TIA) humiliated Trishakti High School 18-0 in the inaugural match of the Coca Cola Cup Inter-school Football Tournament here at the Dasharath Stadium. Sarvottom Thapa Magar, Rajiv Sunuwar, and Gagan Thapa scored two each while Nima Tsering Lama, Bimal Limbu, Mohan Limbu netted one goal apiece. In all 129 schools are taking part in the tournament. — HNS

ACC meeting

KATHMANDU: The meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Development Staff Coordination Committee started here on Sunday. President of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), who spoke at the opening session, said that he requested the ACC to stress on the development of infrastructures in Nepal and initiate in making the Nepali youths play against the likes of India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. “I requested them (ACC) mainly to stress on infrastructure development and match exposures for Nepali youth teams against the tough Asian opponents,” said Pandey. The ACC meeting will end on Monday. — HNS
