Hosts GAA, Prime in final

KATHMANDU: Hosts Godavari Alumni Association (GAA) set championship date with Prime Sports Club in the second Fr Donnelly 3 on 3 Men’s and Women’s Open Basketball Championships on Thursday. GAA defeated B Square 21-9, 21-13 while Prime saw off Trungram International Academy 21-2, 21-4 in the women’s semi-finals. Advancing to the men’s final were Golden Gate ‘B’ and Trinity ‘A’. Golden Gate edged out Trinity ‘C’ 21-7, 21-6, 21-3 while Trinity ‘A laboured to a 21-10, 21-17, 17-21, 21-6 win over Golden Gate ‘A’. Both the finals will be played on Friday. — HNS

Judo team off to Bangkok

KATHMANDU: A four-member Nepali Judo team on Thursday left for Bangkok to take part in the Thailand International Judo North College Championships. Suresh BK will compete in the men’s 55kg and Pramila Sarki will fight in the women’s 48kg section. Coach Prithvi Alok and manager Punam Pariyar also accompanied the players to Bangkok. This would be the third Nepali participation in the tournament, scheduled for July 24 to 29. It is, however, the first participation of Alok and Pariyar in the tournament. Nepal Judo Association president Deepak Harsha Bajracharya bade farewell to the team. — HNS

Padma Kanya enter final

KATHMANDU: Hosts Padma Kanya Campus ‘Blue’ qualified for the final of the third Valleywide Inter-campus Professors’ Volleyball Tournament here on Thursday. In the controversial last match of the Super Three stage, Padma Kanya advanced to the final after their opponent Ratna Rajya Campus walked out of the game while trailing 25-22, 22-14. The hosts will take on Tri Chandra Campus for the championship on Friday. — HNS
