Taekwondo selection
KATHMANDU: Nepal Taekwondo Association selected 11 players as the Group ‘A’ national category after holding a competition here on Tuesday. Six men - Puspa Thapa Magar (Fin), Kumar Manandhar (Fly), Ganesh Bahadur Budhathoki (Feather), Pitambar Upreti (Light), Deepak Bista (Welter) and Sunil Singh (Heavy) - and five women - Bima Rai (Fin), Padma Gurung (Fly), Pabina Rai (Bantam), Ayesha Shakya (Feather) and Manita Shahi (Light) - were picked up as the elite national team members. The elite members will have the luxury to undergo foreign training and scholarships, said the association. The selected players are scheduled to leave for Korea for training late in April. — HNS
JYC form committee
LALITPUR: Samsung Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) formed a 17-member ad-hoc committee after Sunil Shrestha-led committee resigned on Sunday. Sunil SJB Rana was nominated as the president of the club on Tuesday. Parasar Jung Pandey and Chhiring Lama are the vice presidents while Manmohan KC, Mahendra Chhetry and Namgyal Chhiring Lama have been named as general secretary, secretary and treasurer of the newly formed committee respectively. The members of the committee included Deep Kumar Rai, Deshpal Singh Hamal, Raju Gurung, Jayaram KC, Shyam Bhandari, Madhav Thapa Magar, Sachin Dhwoj Khadka, Ghanashyam Shrestha, Samir KC, Sharad Aryal and DB Basnet. Bhaktaraj Rajkarnikar, Shekhar Golcha, Sharad Singh Bhandari and Birendra Bahadur Basnet were nominated as advisors. — HNS
APF, JYC enter final
LALITPUR: Armed Police Force (APF) Team and Samsung Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) advanced to the final of the third Nepal Bank ‘A’ Division Junior (U-14) League Football at the ANFA Complex grounds on Tuesday. APF edged out Nabil Three Star 5-4 in sudden death after a 1-1 draw in regular time. Buddha Lama equalised in the 56th minute for APF after Rajish Maharjan gave Three Star the lead early in the first minute. In another semi-final, Silas Rai and Rajendra Thapa scored a goal each in JYC’s 2-1 win over New Road Team (NRT). Sulabh Maskey replied for NRT. The final is scheduled for Thursday. — HNS
