SAG medallists rewarded :

LALITPUR: All Nepal School Sports Association (ANSSA) rewarded the 10th South Asian Games (SAG) gold medallists with Rs 11,000 at Little Angels’ School today. ANSSA also gave away felicitation letters to the 15 silver and 31 bronze medallists. Member secretary of National Sports Council Jeevan Ram Shrestha presented the cash prizes to Kamal Bahadur Adhikari (weightLifting), Bina Khadka Lama (Wushu), Raj Kumar Rasaili (Wushu), Sulochana Sijakhwa (Karate), Kushal Shrestha (Karate), Rajendra Bhandari (Athletics — 5,000m and 3,000m steeplechase), Manita Shahi (Taekwondo), Deepak Bista (Taekwondo), and certificates to silver and bronze medallists. — HNS

Badminton :

KATHMANDU: Yamuna Thapa, Preeti, Bidushi Thapa and Aditi Pandey advance to the senior girls’ semi-finals at the Triyog Inter-school Badminton Tournament today. Yamuna beat Laling Lama, Preeti edged Sweza Rajbhandari, Bidusi beat Akriti Rayamajhi and Aditi defeated Srijanan Lama. In the senior boys’ category Abhishek Bosh, Bijesh Tamrakar, Probal Joshi, Susim Aryal, Subhasish Poudel, Vardan Giri, Tej Rai and Lakchya Shah advanced to the third round while the winners in junior boys’ section were Karma Sherpa, Sushan Shrestha, Manish Shrestha, Sajan K Tamrakar, Shahil Shrestha, Tsering Tenzing, Sangat Pulami and Ritiz Puri. Likewise, the second round winners in the junior girls’ section were Manisha Sasankar, Sangita Neupane, Sunita Ranamagar, Dipti Singh, Manila Bhatta, Dolma Lama and Pragati Bajracharya. — HNS

Volleyball :

KATHMANDU: Nightingale Sports Club and Purbanchal won their matches in the Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Volleyball League Championship here today. Nightingale defeated Kavre Offset Press in straight sets 25-15, 25-20, 25-23 while Purbanchal registered a hard-fought 23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 15-13 victory over Shikhar Sanskritik Manch. — HNS

9-Ball Pool :

KATHMANDU: Deepak Karki entered the round of 32 at the 9-Ball Pool Tournament, which has been organised by Fun World Nepal Recreation Centre today. Bikash Karki, Sanjay Basnet, Bikash Rai, Bikash Dhungana, Bhaskar Shah, Raju Upreti, Suk Bahadur Baram, Bikky Lama, Ganga Ram, Satsam Shrestha Nirajan Tuladhar, Amir Tuladhar, Suraj Singh, Sabin Shrestha and Jagat Lama also advanced to the second round. In all, 64 participants from 17 pool and snooker clubs — including a lady cueist Sangita Thapa of Garden Snooker — are taking part in the four-day tournament. Earlier, Bharat Kumar Shakya, GM at Nepal Recreation Centre, inaugurated the tournament. Krishna Basnet, convenor of the tournament, was also present on the occasion. — HNS

ITF taekwondo :

KATHMANDU: Bagmati Zone won seven gold medals out of the nine included in the fourth

National Senior Taekwondo Championship here today. Kusum Thapa won two gold medals while Laxmi Maya Gautam, Nirmala Gurung, Ram Sundar Shrestha and Kusal Thapa won one each for Bagmati. Women Team Spiring gave another gold to Bagmati. Anusha Bhattarai gave Dhaulagiri a gold and Tek Bahadur Thapa provided Lumbina the gold in other events. Players will vie for 10 more gold medals on Tuesday. — HNS
