KATHMANDU: Nepal beat Papua New Guinea 3-1 on the second day of the 37th Chess Olympiad in Turin, Italy today. Rajendra Prasad Shrestha was impressive in his win over Skehan Craig. According to an e-mail sent by team leader Sitaram Agrahari, Bilam Lal Shrestha defeated Jones Rupert while Digesh Shanker Malla, rated 2257, drew with Stuart, rated 2167. Keshav Shrestha also drew with 2098 rated Press Shaun. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Ram Chandra Rai scored a solitary goal as Bambule Rai Samaj defeated Bir Bhadra Youth Club 1-0 in the ‘C’ Division League selection tournament. In other matches, Kumari Youth Club beat Gram Nirman Bandhu Mandal 3-2 in tie-breaker, Kamal Yuva Pratisthan thrashed The Rising Star 5-1 and Chyasal Youth Club beat Sukshma Nagar Tole Sudhar Samiti 1-0. Other winners included Pani Pokhari Youth Club, Jhamshikhel Youth Club, Raniban Youth Club and Nakhipot Youth Club. — HNS

ANFA selection

KATHMANDU: ANFA is conducting selection for its fifth batch academy. A total of 246 children of 10-12 years across the nation have turned to Kathmandu for final selection. About 40-45 children will be picked in the first phase and the number will be cut-short to about 25 after further tests. The fourth batch playes are still in the academy while 11 players of the third batch were recently sold to Sankata Club for Rs one million. — HNS
