7-a-side futsal
Lalitpur: Jawalakhel Youth Club is organising Seven-a-side Football Tournament on May 13-14. Participating 12 teams have been divided into four groups and top two teams will qualify for the quarter-finals. League matches will be held on Friday while quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will be played the next day. In the last two years, JYC had organised five-a-side tournament. According to the JYC president Sunil Shrestha, the club will also felicitate its former players and contributors. — HNS
Karate tourney
KATHMANDU: Nepal Shito-Ryu Karate Association is organising the 12th International High-school level Karate and Kick Boxing Championship from May 26-28 at the National Sports Council. A total of 700 students from Nepal and 500 students from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are expected to participate in the 30 different events. Top three teams will get Rs 5,000, Rs 4,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively while a disciplined team will receive Rs 2,000.— HNS
‘Run for Peace’
KATHAMANDU: The two-day 80-km “run for peace” race begins on Friday on the occasion of 2550th Buddha Jayanti. According to the organisers, Bishal Bazar Trade Association, the race begins from Bishal Bazar complex on Friday and ends at the Nuwakot Durbar on Saturday. Former national athlete Ratna Tuladhar and Sita Rimal among others will take part in the race. — HNS
NAA award
KATHMANDU: Nepal Athletics Association (NAA) is awarding the best athlete of the year 2005 on May 13. First of its kind in the discipline, NAA will review the national and international performance before picking the player. The best coach will also be felicitated on the occasion along with Asian All Star Athletics Championship gold med-allists Rajendra Bhandari. Honorary members Gajaraj Joshi, Bikram Pandey, Baikuntha Manandhar and director of Nepal-German Athletics Development Cooperation Project Gunter Lange are among others to be feted.— HNS

KATHMANDU: MMC beat Jawalakhel Youth Club 3-2 in the Nepal Bank Junior League football on Thursday. Sujan Limbu, Pasang Lama and Dinesh Karki scored for MMC while Hari Ale and Rabin Thapa found the nets for JYC. Nabil Three Star Club and Brigade Boys’ Club played a 2-2 draw in another match. Vicky Gurung and Ravi Thapa score for TSC while Saroj Lama and Sundar Budhathoki scored for BBC. In the last game, Sankata Club rallied to a 1-1 draw against Boys’ Union Club. Ravi KC had provided BUC the lead in the 34th minute and Bijay Gurung equalised in the 59th — HNS
