Badminton

KATHMANDU: Bijay Thapa and Tula Raj Bhandari registered win in the men’s doubles section at the third Ramailo Badminton Tournament. Other winners in the men’s doubles events were Kesh Gauchan and Basanta Gauchan; Anil Shah and Pradesh KC; Jagat Ram Rai and Dambar Rai; Suresh Basnet and Briden Subba; Ranjit Ghotoni and Binod Shrestha; Jit Rai and Shiva Rai; Santosh Tamang and Kshitiz Subba; and Bijay Thapa and Tula Raj Bhandari. Winners in the mixed doubles were Ranamati Limbu and Kirtiman Rai; Subash Jobeza and Krishna Thebe; Nirmala Thapa and Sailendra Ghale. Nirmala Thapa and Pratima Thapa won in women’s doubles while Naresh Tamrakar and Bharat Karki won in the veteran’s doubles match. — HNS

LALITPUR: Surkhet demolished Jhapa 11-0 in the U-14 DDC Chairman Cup football tournament on Thursday. In other matches, it’s: Nuwakot 9, Lumjung 0; Saptari 4, Udaypur 1; Baglung 3, Dhankuta 1; Illam 4, Syangja 2; Parsa 1, Morang 0; Nawalparasi 5, Kaski 1; and Banke 5, Panchthar 0. Makwanpur defeated Dhanusa 4-3 and Sunsari beat Kanchanpur 3-1 in tie-breaker. — HNS

Taekwondo

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Taekwondo Dojang is organising the first Bagmati Zonal Taekwondo Championship on February 25-27 in Bafal. In all, 475 players from 25 teams will fight for the 20 gold medals, chief of the organising dojang, Ram Giri, said at a prees meet held at Nepal Sports Journalists’ Forum on Thursday. There will be 11 weight categories in men’s and nine in women’s sections. The top three team champions will get Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively. — HNS

Athletics

KATHMANDU: Mid-western Region won eight gold medals in the Inter-regional School-level athletics tournament held at the Dasharath Stadium on Thursday. The events that gave Mid-western the gold medals are girls’ 5000m, boys’ 400m, boys’ triple jump, girls’ 400m, girls’ shot put, boys’ 100m, girls’ 100m and boys’ 5,000m. Central, Eastern and Western Region bagged two gold medals each while Far-western won one in girls’ long jump. — HNS

Veteran Tennis

KATHMANDU: Club Page 3 is organising the Page 3 Cup Veteran Fun Tennis Tournament on March 3 and 4 at National Sports Council tennis court. Around 75 players are expected to take part in the event, which will have three categories — singles, doubles and mixed doubles. According to the organisers, a player can participate only in one event. A player should be of over 35 years of age to register for the tournament. — HNS
