Karatekas off of India

KATHMANDU: An 11-member Wadokai Karate team on Wednesday left for Gujarat to participate in the sixth International Wadokai Karate Tournament slated for November 21-22. Among the players to compete in the tournament are Bijay Khadka, Raju Maharjan, Chin Lama, Hari Tamang, Sushil Ghalan, Gyan Bahadur Thapa Magar, Nirdesh Maharjan and Niru Tamang. Coach Mohan Maharjan, team official Janak Lal Lama and referee Ram Bahadur Lama also accompanied the team to India. — HNS

Annal Jyoti win

KATHMANDU: Hosts Annal Jyoti recorded double wins on the opening day of the ninth Annal Jyoti Running Cup Inter-school Volleyball Tournament here on Wednesday. The hosts’ team ‘A’ saw off Gyan Bigyan 25-18, 25-13 before Team ‘B’ rallied for a 14-25, 25-15, 25-17 win over Bright Future. In another boys’ match, Newton defeated Samakhushi English Boarding (SEB) School 25-20, 25-23. In the mini-boys section, SEB beat Model School 25-21, 25-21 and Gyanodaya saw off Annal Jyoti ‘A’ 25-18, 16-25, 25-23. In all, 21 teams are competing for the trophies in three categories — boys’, girls’ and mini-boys.

KFA in semis

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Football Academy (KFA) advanced to the semi-finals of the Gurukul Girls’ Football Tournament here on Wednesday. The KFA edged past hosts Gurukul 2-1. Alina Shahi and Sajita Magar scored for KFA. KFA will now take on Niten Memorial School for a place in the final. The other semi-final pits Toru against Suvakamana School.
