Deep Jyoti in final
KATHMANDU: Hosts Newton and Deep Jyoti advanced to the boys’ section final at the first Newton Inter-school Volleyball Tournament on Friday. Newton defeated Angel Heart 25-13, 25-17, 20-25, 25-13, while Deep Jyoti registered a straight sets victory over Manaslu 25-20, 25-19, 25-22. Likewise, New Diamond beat Puspa Kunja 25-9, 25-7, 25-17 and Annal Jyoti defeated Deep Jyoti 25-19, 25-15, 25-20 to enter to the girls’ section final. — HNS
Valley Public advance
KATHMANDU: Valley Public defeated Swapna Vatika 32-11 to enter to the senior girls’ quarter-finals of the eighth Gyan Niketan Inter-school Basketball Tournament. In other matches, Gyan Niketan beat Mahendra Bhawan 13-6 and New Shrine outplayed Reliance 20-14. In senior boys’ section, Golden Peak beat Universal 48-30 and advanced to the quarter-finals. Puspa Sadan registered a 30-23 win over Brihaspati in the junior boys’ section match. — HNS
Golden Gate in semis
KATHMANDU: Paras Khadka scored four goals and Paresh Shrestha struck a hat-trick as Golden Gate beat Basu HS School 7-4 to enter the semi-finals of the Valleywide Inter-college Futsal Tournament. Sudin Basukala scored a hat-trick and Sushil Prajapati netted one goal for Basu. In the other match, Khwopa ‘Blue’ thrashed Prabhat 9-1. — HNS
Siddhi Ganesh Cup
BHAKTAPUR: Madhyapur Youth Association (MYA) and hosts Siddhi Ganesh Sports Committee advanced to the final of the sixth Siddhi Ganesh Cup Football Tournament. The hosts thrashed Ward No 1 Sports Committee 8-0, while MYA beat Freedom Shantinagar 5-3 on penalties. — HNS
Weeka Talentia
KATHMANDU: Don Bosco, Prime and Trinity entered the boys’ section semi-finals of the basketball tournament at the Weeka Talentia. Don Bosco defeated Bernhardt 49-41, Prime beat National Campus 51-42 and Trinity outplayed White House 51-42. In the girls’ section, Prime defeated Xavier International 22-9.— HNS
BSAM ‘A’ win
BHAKTAPUR: Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya (BSAM) defeated Belor Academy 3-1 in the inaugural match of the Inter-school Birendra Sainik Running Shield Football Trophy here on Friday. Ujjwal Tiwari, Bikram Shrestha and Niraj Pudasaini scored for the hosts, while Harish Shrestha netted the consolation goal for Belor. — HNS

KATHMANDU: The second AIC Greenland Chess Tournament began here on Friday. A total of 93 players- including 54 girls — from 23 schools are taking part in the three-day tournament organised by Greenland Children Academy. — HNS
