Golden Gate beat Malpi

LALITPUR: Golden Gate International (GGI) registered a crushing 57-4 victory over Malpi International in the girls’ section of the first Patan Jaycees Inter-college Basketball Tournament that kicked off here on Thursday. Golden Gate shut out Malpi scoring 20 and 14 points while conceding none in the first two quarters. They extended their lead scoring 10 against the four of Malpi in the third before closing out the fourth and final quarter 13-0. Maya Syangten top scored with 13 points. In the boys’ section, Bal Dikshya Sadan outplayed Malpi 47-14 played at their own court in Gwarko. Sanjay Byanjankar contributed 15 points for Bal Dikshya. — HNS

Shrestha appointed prez

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Body Building Association (NBBA) President Rajesh Babu Shrestha has been appointed as the President of South Asian Body Building Federation (SABBF). The newly reformed SABBF executive committee in Thailand appointed Shrestha in the post. Bijay Lal Kayastha and Dinesh Rajbhandari were elected as vice-president and member in the committee respectively. Kayastha is the Senior Vice President and Rajbhandari the General Secretary of the NBBA. NBBA Secretary Rajan Shrestha has also been named in the SABBF’s panel of judges while Udaya Rajbhandari as a member of the technical committee. — HNS

Adarsha in semi-finals

LAMJUNG: Adarsha Youth Club advanced to the semi-finals of the second Bahundanda Cup Men’s Football Tournament with a 4-2 win over Saptakanya Club on Thursday. Nanda Prasad Gurung scored a brace and Aashim Gurung and Chandra Man Gurung also netted one apiece for Adarsha. Bikesh Gurung pulled back both the goals for Saptakanya. Adarsha will take on the winners of Friday’s match between Mount Manaslu and defending champions Adarsha Club. In the other matches, Adarsha Club edged past Manaslu Marshyangdi Club 3-0 in tiebreaker after a 1-1 draw in normal time while Subash Gurung scored four goals as Triveni Club crushed Purnima Club ‘B’ 5-1. In the only women’s match on Thursday, Srijana Club laboured to a 3-2 win in tiebreaker against Prativa Yuva Club. — HNS

Thapa Magar felicitated

KATHMANDU: The Nepal International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) on Thursday felicitated Ishwor Thapa Magar for winning a bronze medal at the International Taekwondo (ITF) Tournament that concluded on August 23 in Beijing. Ishwor claimed bronze in the 60-65kg weight category after he lost against a Japanese player in the semi-final match. Nepal ITF President Krishna Bahadur Balal felicitated Ishwor along with team manager Ishwor Man Gurung here on Thursday. — HNS

Shiwakoti, Giri on top

KATHMANDU: Nepali umpires Raman Shiwakoti and Himal Raj Giri topped the ACC Level-II Umpiring Course in Qatar from August 16 to 22. Shiwakoti secured 93 points to finish first in the examination while Giri collected 88 points to finish second. A total of 15 umpires from nine Asian countries including Afghanistan, Malaysia, Qatar, Bhutan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Singapore and Oman took the six day course. — HNS
