Five-member team to go to Oman

KATHMANDU: A five-member Nepali team is on Saturday leaving for Jordon to take part in the Generations for Peace Camp to be organised by Peace and Sport Commission of International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) from June 1-10 in Oman. General Secretary of Nepal Judo Association Ramesh Maharjan, Vice-President of Nepal Basketball Association Helga Rana Rayamajhi, taekwondo player Deepak Bista, football player Kumar Thapa and gymnastic player Bhogendra Manandhar are the sportspersons, who were selected by the organisers from Nepal for the Camp. General Secretary of Nepal Olympic Committee Jeevan Ram Shrestha bade farewell to the team. — HNS


Unique triumph

KATHMANDU: Unique, Shri Diwa and Kantipur won the Young Heart Inter-school Basketball Tournament trophies here on Friday. Unique defeated Pennwood 62-52 in the senior boys’ section final riding on

25 points from Manish Tamang. Saugat Singh of Pennwood was named the MVP of the tournament. In junior boys’ final, Shri Diwa beat Daffodil 31-29. Girls’ Kabaddi

BHAKTAPUR: Mount Everest, Ganesh School (Chhaling), Ganesh School (Sipadol), Bagishwori, Sharada, Basu and Samaj Sudhar entered the quarter-finals of the Valleywide Chew Gawvara Girls’ Kabaddi Tournament organised by Chew Gawvara Sports Club of Bhaktapur. On Friday, Mount Everest beat Ganesh (Chhaling) 56-18, Brihaspati ‘A’ defeated Ganesh (Sipadole), Sharad beat Brihaspati ‘B’ 42-4, Kumari beat Paragon 25-24, Basu beat Minarwa 23-12, Adarsha Azad beat Maitidevi 23-17 and Samaj Sudhar beat Tara School 21-8. Junior tennis

LALITPUR: Karuna Gauchan and Sonam Lingjing entered the Under-10 girls’ section final at the Junior Tennis Initiative (JTI) Tournament here on Friday. Karuna defeated Maya Rana 9-6, while Sonam outplayed Pita Thurung 9-2 in the semi-finals. Sonam and Kyalsing Satyal made it to the U-12 girls’ final. In U-14 girls’ section, Aslesha Lisanovic, Robina Gurung, Anushka Joshi and Mina Gharti Magar entered the semi-finals, while Suman Thapa, Anushka Joshi, Mina Gharti Magar and Saloni Magar did so in U-16 section. Gaurav Shah, Bramanda Moktan, Milan Rokka and Diwakar Ojha made it to the U-16 boys’ semi-finals. Wilson Hoops

KATHMANDU: Akash Bayalkoti scored 36 points as Arniko School beat Mouth Kailash 68-63 in the senior boys’ section match at the Wilson Hoops 2009 Inter-school Basketball Tournament here on Friday. In girls’ section, Teresa Academy defeated Gyanodaya 27-21 riding on Sarita Tamang’s 10 points. In junior boys’ section match, Zenith outplayed South Point 54-18. NLSJA formed

KATHMANDU: Nepal Loktantrik Sports Journalists Association (NLSJA) has been formed under the presidentship of Chetan Pandey. Narayan Upadhayaya and Krishna Raj Khanal are the vice presidents, while Nabin Aryal, Umesh Ojha and Bal Mukunda Nepal are the secretary, treasurer and joint secretary respectively. Sribikram Bhandari, Nimesh Adhikari, Radhe Shyam Dahal, Manoj Ghimire, Bishnu Hari Ghimire, Suresh Neupane and Ram Sudan Timalsina are the members. The committee also announced the sports award to be given every year. — HNS
