Nathan wins

KATHMANDU: Joseph Nathan won the Monthly Medal Tournament here at the Le Meridien Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Spa on Saturday. Playing with 18 handicap, Nathan earned 45 on the front nine and 44 on the back to accumulate 89 points. Stephan McGuinness came second with 97 points. He scored 45 and 52 on the front and back nine. General Manager of Soaltee Holiday Inn Crown Plaza, Greesh Bindra gave away the prizes. — HNS

Three Star beat NRT

KATHMANDU: Vijay Gurung and Sandeep Rai scored a goal each as Nabil Three Star Club defeated New Road Team (NRT) 2-0 in a friendly football match here at the Dasharath Stadium on Saturday. The match was jointly organised by UNDP and All Nepal Football Association to raise public awareness on natural disaster. Gurung put the Three Star ahead in the 43rd minute before Rai doubled the tally two minutes into the second half. — HNS

NIMS win c’ship

KATHMANDU: Sangita Shrestha netted 11 points as Nitin Memorial School (NIMS) won the girls championship with a 42-11 victory over Marshyangdi in the final of the second Intensive Inter-school Basketball Tournament. Mt Glory edged NIMS 58-56 in extra time in the boys’ final. Mt Glory scored eight and NIMS added six in the extra time after the teams were tied at 50 points in regular time. Hosts Intensive School claimed the junior boys’ title with a 35-32 win over Gillette with Suman Basnet contributing 25 points alone for the winners. Sangita Shrestha of NIMS won the Most Valuable Player award in the girls’ section while Jeevan Shrestha, also of NIMS, was declared the MVP in the boys’ section. Suman Basnet of Intensive bagged the MPV award in the junior boys’ event. — HNS

Valley Public triumph

KATHMANDU: Valley Public won both their league matches to advance to the quarter-finals of the Franklin Cup second Inter-school Girls’ Basketball Tournament on Saturday. Valley Public hammered Bhanubhakta Memorial 60-0 before defeating Gillette School 40-4. Likewise, Penwood beat LRI 27-3, hosts Mahendra Bhawan overcame Malpi International 36-16, Prithvi School edged past Shri Diwa 16-13, Wilson Academy defeated Green Lawn 19-9 and Gyan Niketan got a walkover win from Loyalty. In Sunday’s quarter-finals, it’s: Rato Bangala vs Penwood; Mahendra Bhawan vs Gillette; Prithi vs Wilson; and Valley Public vs Gyan Niketan. — HNS
