Rato Bangala win title

KATHMANDU: Rato Bangala defended the Franklin Cup second Inter-school Girls Basketball Tourmanent here on Tuesday. Niharika Pant netted seven points as Rato Bangala defeated Valley Public School 20-12 in final. Hosts Mahendra Bhawan edged Prithvi School 18-17 in the third-place decider. Sujata Rai of Valley Public won the most valuable player award while Seema Karki of Mahendra Bhawan finished top scorer of the tournament with 120 points. Siwa Karmachaya of the hosts school claimed the ‘best three-pointer” award. In all, 15 teams took part in the tournament. — HNS

Mote off to Sri Lanka

KATHMANDU: Nepali coach Bishan Mote left for Sri Lanka on Tuesday to conduct trainning at the seventh International Karate Trainning Camp. Organised by Nippon Karate Association of Sri Lanka, the camp is scheduled for August 24-31. General secretary of Nepal Karate Federation and president of Nepal Shitoryu Karate Association Kedar Babu Shivakoti among others bade farewell to Mote on Tuesday. — HNS

3 players share lead

Kathmandu: Three players shared the top spot after the third round of the 15th National Rating Chess Tournament on Tuesday. Niraj Niroula, Manish Hamal and Janardan Shrestha won their second and third round matches on Tuesday to accumulate three points each. Niroula defeated Rakesh Rauniyar in the second round and then beat Surendra Maharjan in the third, while Hamal earned victories over Ganesh Man Duwal and Niranjan Prajapati. Likewise, Shrestha beat Chandra Mohan Adhikari and Purushottam Hamal. — HNS

RSFN expel Giri

KATHMANDU: Republican Sports Federation of Nepal (RSFN) expelled their member Hukum Raj Giri from the central executive committee here on Tuesday. Giri was expelled for defying the NSFN directives - to quit the NOC membership and cancel the Beijing Olympics visit. But despite the strict rulings, Giri recently joined Nepali delegation in Beijing. The NSFN have been protesting against Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) for including unrelated person in the Nepali contingent for the Olympics. “After it was proven that Giri travelled to Beijing, we have decided to scrape his general membership as well,” said the RSFN release. — HNS
