U-16 cricketers selected

KATHMANDU: The Region-III (Kathmandu) Cricket Development Committee on Saturday picked up 14 cricketers under the captaincy of Nupur Pandey for the Boost U-16 National Cricket Tournament scheduled here for January 4 to 13. Vice-captain Sujan Basnet, Bijaya Rokaya, Rishab Rajbhandari, Dilman Rokka, Gaurav Pathak, Sharad Khadka, Milan Thapa, Ram Krishna Jaiswal, Bikash Limbu, Roshan Khatri, Anmol Thapa, Ritesh Basnet and Bishal Limbu have been selected for the tournament. Sanjit Shrestha, Roshan Karki, Ayush Gautam and Karan Khatiwada were named reserve players. The players were picked up according to their performance in a selection tournament held from December 24-27.

Anjila wins gold

KATHMANDU:Anjila Lama of Kathmandu Taekwondo Dojang on Saturday claimed the girl's 29-32kg gold medal in the fourth Districtwide Invitational Taekwondo Tournament. Anjila beat Parvati Budhathkoi in final while Sharmila Karki and Priyanka Shrestha finished joint third. Rejina Karki defeated Santoshi Dahal to win the girl's 43-46kg gold while Devika Tamang and Sangeeta Karki took bronze. In the boy's 29-32kg final, Sagar Bogati defeated Bhisma Shrestha. Anuj Magar and Anil Rai ended up joint third in the category. In the boy's 33-36kg final Bijaya Shrestha outplayed Yubaraj Lama whereas Suman Kumal and Bijaya Lama finished joint third. Amrijan Chaudhary claimed the boy's 41-45kg gold with a win over Jeevan Bal. Bishal Shivakoti and Sameer Thapa bagged bronze. Also, Anuj Pujari and Rupak Shrestha set the men's 66-70kg final today.

White House advance

LALITPUR: Himalayan White House College reached the quarter-finals of the Akhil Cup Inter-college Football Tournament here on Saturday. Krishna Gopal Shrestha scored a brace as White House eased past Baneshwor Campus 2-0 to reach last eight from Group H. Shrestha gave White House the lead in the 50th minute and sealed the match with another in the 69th minute. Nepal Commerce Campus, Patan Multiple College, Xavier International College, Shankar Dev Campus, Triton College and Trungram International Academy have already made it to the quarter-finals. The quarter-final matches will begin from January 9.

Rara Hill 'A' triumph

KATHMANDU: Hosts Rara Hill 'A' claimed the senior girl's title of the fifth RAA Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Saturday. Rara Hill 'A' defeated Rose Bud School 27-16 with 10 points from Bhumika Maharjan. Palistha Maharjan was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the tournament organised by Rara Hill Alumni Association.
