TIA enter last eight
LALITPUR: Trungramm International Academy (TIA) reached the quarter-finals of the Akhil Cup Inter-college Football Tournament on Thursday. TIA defeated Grand Academy 1-0 with an own-goal from Ajay Thapa Magar. In another match, Himalayan White House College laboured to a 7-6 win in sudden death against National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) after a 1-1 stalemate in regular and added time. Birendra Thapa had put White House ahead in the 37th minute but Amrit Bhandari equalised for NIST in the 54th.
ITF committee formed
KATHMANDU: A new 13-member executive committee of the Parsa Taekwondo Association (ITF) has been formed under the presidency of Lal Babu Prasad Kurmi on Thursday. Ananta Lal Das and Abhim Dangol are the vice-presidents, Dinesh Sharma the secretary and Anshu Nath Sharma the treasurer in the newly formed committee. Members include Ravi Koirala, Deep Kumar Kurmi, Martin Moktan, Jaganath Tiwari, Mani Kumar Lama, Mukesh Dwibedi, Shree Badan Malla and Deepa Yonjan.
Dahal in quarter-finals
KATHMANDU: Santoshi Dahal of hosts Laiku Taekwondo Dojang reached the girls’ 43-46kg quarter-finals of the fourth Districtwide Invitational Taekwondo Tournament on Thursday. Rejina Karki and Devika Tamang also advanced to the second round. Junu Shrestha, Parvati Budhathoki, Pratima Malla, Maya Gurung and Priyanka Shrestha entered the second round in the 29-32kg category. Punam Hona, Manju Thapa and Binika Joshi also advanced in 28kg section. Ramesh Yadav, Sagar Bogati, Gautam Tamang, Suraj Shrestha, Bhisma Narayan Shrestha, Raju Roka and Anil Rai made it to the second round of the boys’ 29-32kg category. Bijesh Shrestha, Pukar Rokka, Nishesh Rinchen Magar, Suman Kumal, Bikki Lama, Arjun Dura, Amir Shrestha and Bijaya Lama also reached boys’ 33-36kg second round. Making it to the boys’ 41-45kg second round were Dhiraj Shrestha, Amrin Chaudhary, Sameer Thapa and Dhruba Chauhan.
Women Bikers’ Rally
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Automobile Sports Association (NASA) are organising the second Women Bikers’ Championship Rally here on January 30. The rally is jointly organised by Women Bikers Group of NASA and Kathmandu District Sports Association. The top three finishers will earn Rs 20,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively, said the NASA.
