Orient in final

LALITPUR: Orient College reached the girls’ section final of the Professional Gyan Carnival Inter-college Basketball Tournament here on Saturday. In the semi-final match, Orient eased past hosts Gyanodaya Bal Batika 48-20 riding on 25 points from Nisha Bhulan. Orient will now take on White House College for the title. Meanwhile, defending champions Prime, Reliance and Trinity College reached to the boys’ quarter-finals. Prime defeated VS Niketan College 43-30 with Mausam Gauchan posting 15 points. Arun Ghimire netted 11 points as Trinity registered a comprehensive 46-18 win over K & K and Reliance earned a walk over win from NCCS.

Panga win

KATHMANDU: Panga School recorded double wins in the senior girls’ section at the fifth RAA Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Saturday. In their first match, Panga defeated Bright Horizon 17-14 and later eased past Ideal Model 24-13. Rajina Maharjan scored seven points in the first match and Sunaina contributed eight in the second. In the boys’ section, hosts Rara Hill ‘B’, Carribean and Pushpa Sadan all won. Hemanta Lama netted 22 points as the hosts beat Creative 57-37, Carribean registered a narrow 37-36 win over Ideal Model riding on 14 points from Sajin Maharjan and Sudin Pradhan posted 29 points as Pushpa Sadan overcame Learning Realm International School 60-48.

Nepal yet to win

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Makhan Chess Club lost their fifth round men’s match 4-0 to India while the women’s also succumbed to the identical loss against Bangladesh at the Asian Team Chess Championship in Kolkata on Saturday. Unrated Sajan Pandey lost to Grand Master RR Laxman while Raj Kishore Mahato, Punya Man Karmacharya and Sujendra Prasad Shrestha lost to the International Masters B Adhiban, Swayangsu Satyapragyan and Deep Sen Gupta respectively. In the women’s section, Monalisha Khamboo lost to Nazrana Khan, Namrata Chudal to Zakia Sultana, Tara Ghale against Masuda Begum and Bishakha Jaiswal to Rani Hamid.
