Gyanu Baba on top

Kathmandu: Defending champions Gyanu Baba and Fishtail Academy, both from Pokhara, shared the top spot in the fourth Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women's Volleyball Double League Championships on Friday. Fishtail lost to Nepal Police Club (NPC) 25-18, 21-25, 26-28, 25-22, 18-16 but came back to beat Deep Jyoti 25-7, 25-14, 25-12 and saw off Angel Hearts 25-10, 25-14, 25-4. Gyanu Baba defeated NPC 25-21, 25-16, 25-19. Gyanu Baba and Fishtail have 21 points each. NPC have 19 points. Angel Hearts overcame PLA Sports Club 25-17, 21-25, 25-9, 25-17 to remain fourth with 17 points. PLA and New Diamond have 13 each, followed by Deep Jyoti (10).

Nepali in inspection

KATHMANDU: The Youth and Sports Minister Ganesh Nepali on Friday inspected the preparation of wrestlers for the 11th South Asian Games early next year. The National Sports Council member secretary Hari Babu Chaudhary and NSC vice-president Samim Miya Ansari accompanied the minister for the inspection. Nine male wrestlers are preparing for the regional meet.

Triton, KEC win

LALITPUR: Triton, Geeta Mata and Kantipur Engineering College (KEC) won their matches of the Akhil Cup Inter-college football tournament on Friday. Held at the FIFA Technical Centre in Chyasal, Triton defeated Canvas College 2-1. Dharmendra Chaudhary gave Triton the lead in the sixth minute but Binod Ghale brought the equaliser for Canvas in the 34th. Roshan R Chaudhary then scored the decider for Triton in the 40th minute. Pasang Lama scored a hat-trick as Geeta Mata registered a 7-0 win over Kantipur Medical Science College. Lama scored in the 29th, 44th and 54th minutes while Rockey Lama scored brace scoring in 12th and 67th minutes. Ramesh Podar (19th) and Jiten KC (65th) also added one goal apiece. Also, KEC beat Nobel Academy 2-0. Sanjeev Sthapit and Nirajan Thapa scored one goal apiece for KEC.
