Double win for NPC

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club (NPC) registered a double win at the fourth Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women’s Double League Volleyball on Monday. NPC defeated Angel Hearts Academy 25-22, 25-10, 25-19 in their first match before outplaying Deep Jyoti School 25-8, 25-20, 25-20. With the wins, the departmental teams now have 10 points from six matches. They have won four and lost two matches so far. In the other matches, Fishtail Academy of Pokhara eased past New Diamond 25-11, 25-15, 25-15 while the latter were also thrashed by PLA Sports Club 25-22, 25-10, 25-19. Fishtail later took on the defending champions Gyanu Baba School and won the first two sets but fading lights forced the abandonment of the play. Gyanu Baba and Fishtail share the lead with 10 points from five matches.

Rai to play for Sahara UK

KATHMANDU: Yugal Kishore Rai and Gopal Thapa are set to represent the Sahara UK in the Aaha Gold Cup Football Tournament in Pokhara, starting from January 26 next year. The club on Sunday held a selection campaign and decided to include two local football players in their 16-member squad, according to the Sahara Club of Pokhara. The Sahara UK will also include two Nigerians in the squad.

Hamal climbs up to eighth

KATHMANDU: FIDE Master (FM) Manish Hamal climbed up to the eighth place at the first Lake City International FIDE Rating Chess Tournament in Rajasthan on Monday. Hamal shared a point with Narayan Shekhawat in the seventh round and overcame Dharmesh Adwani in the eighth to collect 1.5 points. With Monday’s results, Hamal earned a total of six points. Hamal has so far lost only one match with just one round to go. Purushottam Chaulagain, meanwhile, won both the seventh and eighth round matches. Chaulagain defeated Ishwar Ramteke in the eighth after outplaying Rohan Shinde in the seventh. Chaulagain along with Niraj Niraula and Raju Subedi have 5.5 points on the board.
