LA champions
Lalitpur: Hosts Little Angels (LA) School claimed the team championship of the first LA Inter-school Official Karate Tournament here on Saturday. LA won five gold, eight silver and four bronze medals to top the table. New Horizon ended up second with five gold and seven bronze medals. Pujan Shrestha of the organizing school and Urmila DC of Kamalodaya School were adjudged the best players in their respective sections. Member Secretary of the National Sports Council Hari Babu Chaudhary gave away the prizes.
Giri claims gold
KATHMANDU: Urmila Giri of Akash Deep School won the 45kg category gold medal in the second Goju-ryu tournament here on Saturday. Giri defeated Amrita Lama of Kapan dojo in final. Sushmita Dhital of Kapan won the 30kg gold, Binita Thapa and Sushmita Sapkota of Swayambhu dojo won 20kg and 35kg finals respectively while Sunita Jashraj of Kapan took 40kg title. In the men’s section, Pushang Sherpa and Niran Deula of Dhalko won 20 and 25kg gold respectively. Suman Lama of Swayambhu won the open fight. A total of 125 players participated in the tournament organised by Prashanti Shikshya Sadan.
NIMS, Unique win
KATHMANDU: Hosts Niten Memorial International School (NIMS) ‘A’ and Unique Academy set the boys’ title clash in the first Niten Thakuri Memorial Inter-school Basketball Tournament here on Saturday. Unique defeated Mt Kailash
60-25 in the semi-final riding on 20 points from Bikash Gurung. Sandesh Tamang contributed 22 points as NIMS ‘A’ sidelined Siddhartha Vanasthali Institute 47-29 in the second semi-final. The hosts once again made it to the finals in the girls’ section along with Kantipur School. NIMS overcame Teressa Academy 36-17 with Bina Nakarmi posting 16 points while Ronahi Limbu netted 12 points in Kantipur’s 27-15 win over Daffodil.
Akhil Cup
LALITPUR: Gramin Adarsha, SS College and Patan Multiple College recorded wins at the Akhil Cup Inter-college Football Tournament. Bijaya Rai scored a hat-trick as Gramin thrashed Stupa 7-0. Pawan Karki, Sunil KC, Niraj Dangol and Bishan Shrestha added one goal apiece. SS College saw off HIST 1-0 on the solitary goal from Raju Dangol. Peace Gurung scored a brace as Patan hammered Bajra International College 4-1. Shankar Magar and Santosh Thapa Magar added one goal each while Anil Lama replied for Bajra.
