Hosts, Heritage win
LALITPUR: Hosts Namuna Secondary School 'A' and Heritage School registered wins in the sixth Namuna Running Shield Volleyball tournament here on Tuesday. In the boys' matches, Namuna 'A' defeated West Wing 25-6, 25-12 while Heritage saw off Valley Public (Lamatar) 25-20, 25-16. Lubhu Secondary School, Mount Olive, Children Garden and Adarsha Soul also triumphed. Lubhu sneaked past Namuna Machhindra 25-22, 25-19, Mount Olive overcame Ananta 25-15, 25-19, Children Garden saw off Maha Laxmi 25-23, 25-18 and Adarsha Soul outplayed Kopila 25-3, 25-20.
TIA, Prithvi in semis
KATHMANDU: Hosts Trungram International Academy (TIA) 'A' and Prithvi School reached the girls' semi-finals of the seventh TIA Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Tuesday. TIA 'A' registered a massive 44-4 win over Manjari after Anusha Malla and Prekchya Malla posted 17 points each. Sakuntala Dhimal netted six points to give Prithvi a 17-10 win over Valley Public 'B'. TIA 'A' also reached to the boys' quarter-finals, outplaying Triyog 58-22 in the first match and Paragon 54-17 in the second. Santosh Shrestha and Anish Shahi contributed 16 each in the first match while Prashant Tamang and Suman Magar posted 18 points in their win over Paragon. Golden Peak, Valley Public and LRI also secured their quarter-final berths. Shankar Lama netted 18 points for Golden Peak's 54-22 win over Gyan Niketan while Valley Public thrashed Daffodil 58-38 with 19 points each from Biraj Rana and Rahul Maskey. In another one-sided match of the day, LRI crushed Prithvi 63-12 with Nimesh Rai posting 25 points.
Uniform handed over
KATHMANDU: Hotel Holiday Taj on Tuesday handed over sports uniform to the national men and women kabaddi team preparing for the 11th South Asian Games in Dhaka early next year. National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Hari Babu Chaudhary and vice-president Pitamber Timsina handed over the uniform to the players. NSC member Khadga Bahadur Ranabhat and Nepal Kabbadi Association vice-president Bishnu Prasad Lohani were present on the occasion.
