Maharjan wins chess tourney

Lalitpur, July 25:

Surya Man Maharjan won the Lalitpur Districtwide Selection Chess Tournament here on Friday. Maharjan finished first on better progressive points after three players were tied at 3.5 points each.

On the last day, Surya Man Maharjan lost to Baburaja Maharjan and was held to a draw by Rabindra Shakya. Bhawani Limbu, who is also the vice president of Nepal Chess Association, came second after beating Radha Krishna Maharjan and Som Bahadur Ale.

Megh Raj Shakya, who defeated Subarna Raj Joshi and Baburaja Maharjan, also accumulated

3.5 points but came third. Rabindra Shakya finished fourth. The top four players were selected for the 15th National Chess Tournament to be organised by Lalitpur District Chess Association from August 16.

Comedian Madan Krishna Shrestha gave away prizes to the winners.
