Malla, Khakurel star in Kathmandu win
Kathmandu, March 27:
Skipper Gyanendra Malla scored a century to lead Kathmandu to a crushing 208-run win over Bhaktapur in the opening match of the Wai Wai U-19 Region-3 (Kathmandu) Selection Cricket Tournament here at the Tribhuvan University Stadium today.
Put into to bat first, Kathmandu scored a massive 262-5 in their allotted 40 overs. In reply, Bhaktapur were packed for a paltry 54 runs in 19.2 overs.
Dipen Shrestha (31) and Subhash Khakurel (81) laid a solid foundation with 81-run opening stand for Kathmandu. Khakurel struck eight fours in his 93-ball innings while Dipen hit four boundaries in his 36-ball knock.
Man of the match, Malla ran through Bhakatpur bowlers scoring 105 off 73 balls that included 14 hits to the fence. Prabin Joshi took 3-50 off seven overs and Suraj Shakya finished with 2-25 off six overs for Bhaktapur.
Chasing a mammoth target of 263, Bhaktapur could only manage 54 runs as none of their batsmen reached the double figures. Raman Shrestha was the most successful of the Kathmandu bowlers with 4-14 in 5.2 overs. Prakash Thapa and Raj Shrestha bagged two wickets each while Avaya Rana took one.
