Malla wins in lottery

BHAIRAHAWA: Prashant Bikram Malla has been elected as the president of Cricket Association Rupandehi for the third time on Monday. After two rounds of elections, Malla and another contendor Satyajeet Sarkar received 14 votes each and the winner was picked through lottery. Khem Bhusal, Nirakar Pant, Binay Gyanwali, Sunil Sharma, Rasul Sekh, Niraj Pratap Khand, Ganga Ram Sunar, Sesh Mani Chaudhary, Purna Gurung and Kulendra Pun were elected as the members. Vice president, Secretary and Treasurer will be picked from among the elected members.

Villar to run again

MADRID: Angel Maria Villar says he will seek another term as the president of the Spanish football federation. The 65-year-old former Athletic Bilbao player has headed the federation since 1988, and has won six straight presidential elections. Villar says he “has been asked to run” in the election, to be held in 2016. Villar is widely reported to be under investigation by the FIFA ethics committee for his conduct in the 2018-2022 World Cup bid contests. Villar was named the first vice president of UEFA this year, making him the second highest authority in European football’s governing body behind president Michel Platini.

France to celebrate

PARIS: French President Francois Hollande is holding a special ceremony to promote the Paris bid for the 2024 Olympics. The ceremony is timed for Bastille Day, the country’s biggest national holiday, and is to include several leading political and sports figures. Paris formally announced its bid last month, hoping to bring the games back to the French capital for the first time in 100 years. Rome, Boston, Hamburg and Budapest are also declared bidders. The IOC will choose the host city in 2017. Paris hosted the Olympics in 1900 and 1924 and bid unsuccessfully for the 1992, 2008 and 2012 Games.

Lloris fractures wrist

LONDON: Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has sustained a fractured wrist, less than a month before the start of the Premier League season. Spurs say Lloris “will continue to work alongside the first-team squad to build up his fitness in a bid to be ready for the start of the season.” Tottenham will start the season with s match against Manchester United on August 8.
