Mallorca hold Espanyol

Madrid, October 28:

Daniel Guiza scored his fifth league goal of the season to help 10-man Mallorca draw 2-2 against Espanyol in the Spanish La Liga on Saturday.

Guiza collected a long pass inside the area in the 69th minute before turning to shoot the equaliser through two defenders and inside the near post. Raul Tamudo put Espanyol ahead with a penalty kick in the 27th.

Juan Arango gave Mallorca the lead two minutes in. But the Venezuelan striker handed the visitors an easy equaliser when he headed Luis Garcia’s free kick into the top of his own goal in the 21st.

Espanyol, which could have tied Real Madrid at the top of the standings with its fifth straight win, tied FC Barcelona with 17 points, two more than Mallorca. Also Saturday, Athletic Bilbao and Real Betis played a 0-0 draw.

Ariz Aduritz saw his header tipped over the crossbar by Betis goalkeeper Ricardo in the 33rd, then sent a low shot wide just before halftime. Ricardo dived to deny substitute Fernando Llorente in the 79th as Athletic pressed for the winner. Llorente missed a clear chance with a weak shot moments later as Athletic stayed winless in five matches at the San Mames this season.
